About the Client
A leading manufacturer specializing in industrial gases and cryogenic engineering operated a distributed IT environment across five manufacturing locations in India. As the organization's infrastructure expanded, managing servers across multiple sites became increasingly complex, prompting the need for a scalable cloud strategy.
To support its modernization initiatives, the organization engaged Lauren Group to assess its existing infrastructure, evaluate migration options across AWS and Microsoft Azure, and develop a data-driven roadmap for future cloud adoption.
The Problem
- Distributed infrastructure consisting of more than 70 physical and virtual servers across five manufacturing facilities
- Need to evaluate both AWS and Microsoft Azure before selecting a target cloud platform
- Requirement for workload-specific sizing rather than generic infrastructure estimates
- Business-critical engineering, GIS, document management, and database workloads requiring specialized cloud sizing
- Need to validate migration assumptions before finalizing commercial proposals
- Requirement for long-term infrastructure cost visibility to support investment decisions
- Need for a phased migration strategy aligned with operational and business priorities
Our Approach
To help the client evaluate its cloud migration strategy, we:
- Conducted a comprehensive assessment of the existing server infrastructure across all five locations
- Developed independent AWS and Microsoft Azure migration workbooks with workload-specific cloud mappings
- Mapped individual workloads to appropriate cloud services and compute instances based on infrastructure requirements
- Built detailed three-year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models for both cloud platforms
- Reviewed infrastructure sizing assumptions and refined recommendations through technical solution architecture reviews
- Designed a phased migration approach supported by structured infrastructure discovery
- Created a technical questionnaire to validate workload sizing, application dependencies, networking, backup, and disaster recovery requirements before migration planning
Tech Stacks Used

Amazon EC2

Amazon RDS

Amazon FSx

Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines
The Result
Our assessment enabled the client to evaluate cloud migration options using detailed technical analysis and platform-specific cost modeling rather than high-level estimates.
The engagement provided:
- A comprehensive assessment of infrastructure across five manufacturing locations
- Independent AWS and Azure migration strategies for informed decision-making
- Workload-specific cloud sizing aligned with application requirements
- Multi-year cost modeling to support long-term cloud investment planning
- A structured migration roadmap backed by technical validation and infrastructure discovery
