About the Client

The client is a leading private sector bank in India with a vast customer base and a robust digital infrastructure. As a financial institution, uninterrupted access to data and compliance with strict regulatory standards are critical to its operations. With increasing data volumes, the bank needed a modernized, scalable backup solution to ensure efficiency and reliability. 

The Problem

As the bank’s operations expanded, so did its data storage needs. However, the existing backup infrastructure presented several challenges: 

  • High datacentre footprint – Managing a 2PB backup required 24U of rack space, leading to inefficiencies. 
  • Rising power costs – The system consumed 21.5 kW of power, increasing operational expenses. 
  • Limited scalability – Legacy appliances maxed out at 2PB, requiring frequent hardware expansion. 
  • Performance bottlenecks – Utilization beyond 85% caused slowdowns and impacted efficiency. 
  • End-of-life constraints – Backup appliances required replacement every six years, leading to recurring costs. 
  • Vendor lock-in – The bank’s solution was limited to Veritas NetBackup, restricting flexibility and future expansion.
