Reduction in UPI GL reconciliation processing time
About the Client
A leading Public Sector Bank (PSU Bank) managing high-volume UPI transactions across India. The organization handles large-scale Person-to-Person (P2P) and Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payment reconciliations, requiring highly accurate, scalable, and time-sensitive financial processing operations.
With rapidly increasing digital payment volumes, the bank required a faster and more efficient reconciliation framework capable of improving operational accuracy while reducing manual effort and processing delays.
The Problem
The bank’s UPI GL Reconciliation (UPI GL Recon) process was heavily dependent on manual workflows, creating operational bottlenecks and reconciliation delays across critical financial operations.
As transaction volumes scaled, the organization faced several challenges:
- Processing nearly 40 lakh transaction records daily from NPCI and ARCOS
- Manual reconciliation through Excel-based workflows increasing operational complexity
- High dependency on manual intervention leading to reconciliation errors
- Reconciliation cycles taking nearly 8 hours to complete
- Requirement of 6 FTEs to manage daily reconciliation activities
- Delays in final General Ledger (GL) reconciliation and reporting
- Limited scalability to support growing UPI transaction volumes
The client required an intelligent automation solution capable of accelerating reconciliation processes while improving accuracy, scalability, and operational efficiency.
Our Approach
Lauren designed and implemented an automation-driven UPI GL Reconciliation solution to streamline high-volume financial reconciliation operations.
The solution leveraged Robotic Process Automation (RPA), database automation, and SSIS-driven workflows to automate end-to-end reconciliation activities across P2P and P2M transactions. This enabled:
- Automated ingestion and reconciliation of transaction files
- Faster processing of large-scale transaction volumes
- Reduced manual dependency across reconciliation workflows
- Improved accuracy and consistency in GL reconciliation
- Automated generation of MIS reports and GL worksheets
